Communicating with Grace and Charity

Communication is critical for anyone today in public life. The ways we communicate must reflect our faith and stem from a charitable love of neighbour. This webinar will delve into communicating in general, and as a Catholic in any public context—particularly in dealing with those whom we disagree, or whom oppose us—whether in politics, volunteer roles, heated conversations, etc. Topics will include outlining the principle of charity, following a spirit of engagement, reasoning well, and the goals of effective communications.

On July 21st, 2021, Brendan and I had a great discussion with Leah Perrault, Director of Pastoral Services in the Diocese of Saskatoon and Deacon Pedro Guevara, a producer for Salt & Light Media in Canada. The recording is available for viewing here.

Leah (McDonald) Perrault is the Executive Director of Southwest Homes in Swift Current. She left Saskatoon in the spring of 2021where she served as the Director of Mission at St. Paul’s Hospital, since September of 2018.  She served as Executive Lead of Corporate Initiatives with Emmanuel Care (the Catholic Health Ministry of Saskatchewan) from 2015 to 2018.  Between 2007 and 2015, Leah served as the Director of Pastoral Services for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. When she’s not busy with her day job, she speaks, consults and writes on the side. Her words find a home at retreats, schools, conferences, book clubs, board meetings, church groups, articles, books and in the hearts of those who hear and read them.

Originally from Panama, Deacon Pedro is a producer for Salt + Light Media in Canada. He left Panama to attend Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific on Vancouver Island. He was hired as a producer for Salt + Light Media after being the artistic director for World Youth Day 2002, where he was responsible for all the artistic programming for the 6-day event including the Youth Festival and all the events with Pope John Paul II.

For Salt + Light Media, Deacon Pedro has produced and directed many documentaries and TV programs. You know him as the host (and producer) of The Salt + Light Hour, a popular radio program and podcast that airs across North America on the Catholic Channel, 129 on Sirius XM Radio and can be downloaded wherever you get your podcasts.

On May 26, 2012 Pedro was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Toronto and is assigned to Holy Martyr’s of Japan Parish in Bradford, ON.
